am i too old for bootcamp?

The question “Am I too old for bootcamp?” is an interesting one.

I look at it this way and refer to that classic Chinese proverb regarding planting a tree:

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

And so it is with starting bootcamp.

When it comes to considering your age, and whether you think you are too old for bootcamp, or that bootcamp is a thing for young people, then I would suggest that if you’re even thinking about bootcamp, then your mind has already set in motion the concept that it is something that you could do – now.

I’ve seen bootcampers taking part in exercise classes in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and even heard of people continuing into their 80s. There is no age limit on taking part in a boot camp session (unless you are under 16!).

A good instructor will ensure that any and all exercises and routines are adjusted to suit the capabilities of all those taking part. Equally, many bootcamp operators will have specific groups for those new to exercise, coming back to exercise after a break, or coming back from injury. Many operators will also run groups for our  more mature individuals.

Therefore, unless you have particular medical reasons (whereby your doctor or GP suggests that taking part in an exercise class would be detrimental to your health, which I believe would be very, very unlikely), then there should be no reason why anyone of any age shouldn’t go to and take part in a bootcamp.
