Do I have to come to every session in the week?

At Queen’s Park fitness, we run numerous boot camp sessions a week. A number of people try to come to at least two or three sessions and I would say that that’s probably the ideal number. It gives you the opportunity to opportunity to have a rest between sessions.

We also have social lives, family lives, work lives, what have you to work around, and so three is probably a pretty good number. I do operate a “once a week” membership, and it’s up to people to choose which day they come on. Typically, this is for people who are only able to come on one particular day in the week due to work or childcare considerations.

There’s no obligation of course, to come to every session. From time to time members will like to challenge themselves to do so. But what will often happen is that, having done a couple of weeks’ worth of coming to every session, I won’t see them for a week. This is because they’re pretty tired. And so no, it’s probably not the best idea to come to every session.

Equally, members will come to maybe two or three sessions a week and possibly mix this up with going to a session at their gym or maybe going for a run if that’s something that works for them. But I’d also caution, overtraining is something to avoid. Yes, mix it up. But please make sure you give your bodies a decent rest between sessions.

It’s when you’re resting that you’re your body rebuilds itself, makes itself stronger, and gets leaner and fitter. Give it a good chance to recover. Eat properly between sessions, drink plenty of water. And basically try not to tire yourself out.

There’s no obligation to come to every session a week. Some people like to do it from time to time. But the main thing is to ensure that you get enough rest between sessions, as that enables you to keep on coming back rather than overdoing it, hurting yourself, breaking yourself, or making yourself so tired that you can’t face coming back for a while. Because that’s really not ideal.

Consistency is what it’s about.

Two or three sessions a week, every week, consistently, is better than five or six sessions a week inconsistently.
