A head torch is great for people wanting to see where they’re going. Chest torches do a very similar job and are also perfect for seeing where you’re going.
However, if you’ve ever tried talking to somebody who’s wearing a head torch or a chest torch and it’s turned on, you will soon realise that they are basically going to blind you!! They are very, very bright. And the only real way of getting over this is to put your hand over them or turn them off – which kind of defeats the object of wearing one!
The other thing about wearing a torch is that they don’t allow your eyes to get used to the darkness. Working out in a park in the winter, it actually takes very little time to adjust to the dark. There’s always reflected street lighting, moonlight, starlight etc, so you can see all that’s going on around you pretty well.
My recommendation would be not to wear a head or chest torch during a bootcamp session, as they won’t allow your eyes to adjust and you may end up causing other people discomfort as you turn around to talk to them and flash extremely bright lights into their eyes.
If you want to wear a head torch or chest torch to get to and from the session because it’s dark then, yeah, that’s your choice.
In the session, I say not wearing one is best.
You may however think about wearing arm or ankle lights so other people can see where you are from a slightly longer distance.
