You know what it’s like. You have an endless list of stuff that you need to get done. At the top of the list is something like “Call my Coach”
All of a sudden hanging the washing out is a massive priority
Out goes the washing. The Coach waits. But there’s a few plates that need washing up. Plates done. Coach waiting
A few pointless tasks later and the prospect of calling the Coach is now no longer attractive. He’ll ask why it took so long for me to call him. I have no reason. Just excuses. And lame ones at that. “Oh, you see, I needed to do some spring weeding” won’t really do will it
So now what happens? Calling the Coach now gets moved well down the list. It becomes a non-issue. You see, now that it’s at number 15 in the list it can’t be important can it? After all, there are now 14 more important tasks to get done, and that’s a lot.
At the top of the list you now have a new task. It could be anything but let’s just say it’s “Book in for a healthcheck”
Will you do it? Will you find something more important like, well, going for a haircut?
I trust it’s clear what I’m driving at
And the consequences are far greater than you may think. Putting off an important task until it becomes uncomfortable to even think about it is just that – uncomfortable. That emotion is a stressor on the mind and body. Over time it can lead to problems such as high blood pressure. From then on we head towards heart disease and stroke, to name just a couple of problems. And all because we put off that call to the Coach. Was the call really that hard to make? I doubt it
And so it is with your health. Make it a priority. Act on it. Get up, get out, get active
Maybe you find motivation a problem. Maybe you need to be held accountable to ensure you actually do it. Maybe you need help working out what exercise you should actually be doing. Maybe you are put off by gyms? Is this you?
If this sounds familiar to you then I’m here to help. Just get in touch – the effort involved is minimal – a few keystrokes – and then I’ll make sure you start getting stuff done – feeling better about yourself – and maybe you’ll even call your Coach
