What have you done to keep fit in the past?
I went to gyms regularly for fifteen years, doing a mix of strength and cardio programs. More recently I got back into cycling and last year I trained to cycle from Land’s End to Margate over six days. I’ve also enjoyed hiking most of the peaks in the UK’s national parks over the last ten years. Snowdon is my favourite!
What 3 words would you use to describe Owen’s approach to your fitness goals?
Challenging, structured, fun!
How have you benefited, personally, from working with Owen?
Both my strength and fitness have improved while training with Owen. At the gym it’s very easy to get stuck in a rut with a particular program or to never really push yourself to your capability. I believe we can all achieve more than we think and Owen has helped me to get to that next level. A year ago I had a good level of fitness but running was always a weakness. Now I am enjoying running 20-30km per week. I have better functional strength and I’ve avoided injuries.
What would you say to anyone worried about exercising outside, especially in the rain, or dark?
Moving from training indoors to the outdoors is an amazing way to enjoy your training more. The comfort of a dry, bright gym sounds good, but training outside in the fresh air is far more rewarding. I enjoy time in the natural surroundings of the park and when you’re working hard, the rain or dark really doesn’t stop you. If anything, the seasons add a bit of variety to the workouts which keep them fresh and that’s something you never get in an air conditioned gym. Give it a try and you won’t look back!

What have you done to keep fit in the past?
Before having children, I enjoyed walking and Pilates, but due to health issues didn’t do anything that pushed my cardio system. As my health improved over the years, I tried to take up running to combat weight gained in pregnancy, but I wasn’t consistent and I was definitely a “fair-weather” runner. Each child would lead to a 2 year gap of exercise (other than running after them!).
What 3 words would you use to describe Owen’s approach to your fitness goals?
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. (Thanks Julia !! ed.)
How have you benefitted, personally, from working with Owen?
My strength has improved and I noticed that I am able to carry out my day-to-day tasks with less effort. After a few months of consistently attending sessions, friends made comments on how much weight I had lost. Because I enjoy the physical exercise, the environment, and the social element of Owen’s fitness sessions, I am motivated to be consistent come rain or shine.
What would you say to anyone worried about exercising outside, especially in the rain, or dark?
That was definitely a concern for me and I wanted to bail the first time it rained when we had a session booked, but I knew I would benefit so much from going. So, I went and was pleasantly surprised at how much shelter the trees gave and was also surprised that I didn’t end up looking like I had come out of a bog. There is also something very energising about exercising in the rain and I have no qualms about going out now.
How does exercising, in the Park, work for you?
I love it. Being in the fresh air and seeing the vibrant colours of nature are in and of itself therapeutic, but Owen also makes use of the trees, benches, fences, stone walls, or other things we happen upon to add variety to our workouts. No two workouts have been the same but they are all enjoyable.

What have you done to keep fit in the past?
Bikrams yoga, running, swimming, cycling, triathlon, weight training, personal training sessions, BMF
What 3 words would you use to describe Owen’s approach to your fitness goals?
Maximize performance potential
How have you benefitted, personally, from working with Owen?
Owen motivates, encourages and inspires me to push myself to my limits. He is incredibly knowledgeable and forthcoming with information based on both his own experiences as an athlete and long distance runner as well as running coach and personal trainer. He is relatable and understands that sometimes you may not feel like pushing yourself to the max but will provide humour and encouragement that make you give 100% regardless.
What would you say to anyone worried about exercising outside, especially in the rain, or dark?
Having the right clothing and shoes makes all the difference. Get good trail running shoes and moisture wicking tops/bottoms as well as thick gloves for cold/wet weather. Embrace the somewhat tough conditions and revel in the feeling that you are doing something adventurous and different while the majority have their feet up watching t.v!
How does exercising, in the Park, work for you?
Being outside with fellow exercise enthusiasts to me is the ultimate stress relief. Every session is different and will leave you feeling that you have worked your whole body. Since exercising in the park I have made new friends and I am now probably the fittest I have ever been
