scooters and fitness

Given that we are told to Protect the NHS (agreed as a good thing), fight obesity (agreed as a good thing), and exercise regularly (agreed as a good thing) then why is it that we now have electric scooters laid on for us to get about on?

These do away with one of the easiest and most fundamental forms of exercise – walking. Is that really such a good thing? I personally doubt it and all we have to do, if we care about ourselves, is simply walk past them, and keep propelling ourselves through the use of our legs!
